Burning Questions: Try once more to rescue Ms Brett
This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

You decide that you couldn't live with yourself if you let a helpless person perish like that, so you chafe her wrists and even slap her face, always calling out to her.

And in time, she does wake up, albeit in a drowsy way. She may have breathed in a bunch of smoke.
As you hoist her to her feet and half-carry, half-lead her to the hallway, you almost trip over an empty can on the floor.
"Whoops, my fault," Ms. Brett murmurs distractedly. "I forgot to toss that can out."
"Never mind, let's just keep moving," you say, kicking the can out of the way.
As you move past, you realize that you've seen that logo before: the logo on the tin you just kicked.

It is a can that used to hold gasoline.
Take Ms. Brett out with you
Decide to leave Ms. Brett to her fate
