Tamori Taka: A challenge of beauty, timing, and skill
I have been HS Wift for the longest time now, through some of the darkest hours I have known, and it warms my heart to know that the light that led me through lives on still.
May it never die.
And so, Taka made her first true friend. Someone to play with after her lessons, someone to study the books and scrolls beside her, someone to talk to, to confide her feelings and her memories in.
And all the while, her lessons with Fakura continued. Under his guidance, she was quickly becoming a capable and talented pyrotechnician. She was educated in the dangers of gaijin pepper, and how to handle it responsibly. She was shown how to combine different chemicals to create different colours and effects. She was taught how to craft vessels for her concoctions, to behave in different ways.
As the year drew to a close, Fakura challenged her to create the initial display for the Festival of New Year's Day, to design and make a series of fireworks from scratch all by herself, and to consider how and when to set them off to create the most spectacular display.
Taka was thrilled at the challenge, but she wanted to make sure her display stood out.
She had a few ideas.

The silence hung there for what Taka felt was an age. She felt it clawing at her, suffocating her.

It occurs to me that if this was modern society, teaching a 9 year old how to make fireworks would be considered slightly taboo.
