One afternoon, a month after the departure of the kindly courtier, Taka was reading a historical scroll telling the tale of the first day of Thunder, when her teacher, Fakura approached her.
"Taka-chan, might we speak?"
"Of course, sensei."
"I'm sure you're aware that the Festival of New Year's Day is just two months away." Taka nodded. "Well as usual, the task of preparing the visual entertainment has fallen to me, and I was wondering, if maybe you would like to help me?"
"I don't understand, sensei, why would you want my help? I don't know the first thing about making fireworks."
"You misunderstand my intentions, Taka, you are an intelligent young girl with an inquisitive mind. I am not asking for your help, I am offering you the opportunity to help. I am offering to teach you my craft." He turned to look the girl directly in her mismatched eyes. "How would you like to learn to make fireworks?"
