Moonlight

PrincessLapis

I like writing, but I'm not sure if I'm really any good at it yet.

Eris stepped out of the dank cavern and into the cool night air. A gentle breeze blew past, carrying the sounds of the nearby city with it. She smiled, looking down upon the city, with all its bright lights and busy people.

Oh, if only she ever came here just for fun.

But alas, she was only allowed here on business. Time was of the essence.

Eris ran and jumped off the edge, embracing the air whipping around her. One of the better perks of the job. She landed gracefully on the roof of a nearby building. Physics could take a hike.

Several rooftops later, she jumped gracefully to the ground. There was her target. An unsuspecting man, too busy on his phone. She watched him glance up briefly, before stepping into the road. How foolish.

HONK!

But it was too late. He'd looked up, panic-stricken. But couldn't move in time.

Eris casually strolled over, invisible to the people gathering in the street. She pulled out her scythe and plunged it into his chest, a blue glow forming around the blade. His soul.

No prequels yet. Why not write one?

Oh, very dark. Remind me not to get into a car with you...

Love it.

In my defense, I do not drive and also would not kill people. But, reaper. She's gotta be where death is to collect souls and all.

I appreciate the commentary on distracted people being unaware of the dangers around them. Also it sounds like Eris is only one of a number of reapers, although I could be reading into it. I like her sort of casual disdain for physics. At first I thought she was practicing parkour but it ended up being spirit hops (or some such).

Eris has seen far too many people die by simply being distracted. And yes, there are absolutely more reapers! Probably quite a few, but I haven't given it a ton of thought.

After being bound by normal physics so long, she's sick of them. She's grateful to be able to use magic to do the impossible. =P
