Burning Questions: Jump back to the other side

This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

With a yelp of fear, you spring across the opening, imagining how it would feel to have those sharp tongues of flame lapping at your feet...but you are not burnt. You land, slipping on the floor, which seems slick with some liquid.

You scramble to your feet and face the window. You imagine that if you jump across the pit and then through the window, you just might make it out of this hellhole.

With a bravery you've never felt before, you leap across the fire-roaring hole, land on the strip of tiles, and leap again through that smashed window. As you do, you can feel those shards of glass clawing at your legs. It hurts like hell, but at least it wasn't as bad as if you'd jumped or climbed directly from the tiles. You had a bit of loft, you suppose.

You land hard on the grass, your palms driving into the soil. But you've made it. You laugh in amazement: you're alive! Painful, yes, but still alive. It feels good. You regard the broken window, imagining a few drops of blood lingering on the pointed fragments.
