The Darkness (2/2)

slapdashmonuments

Inspiration hits with a flash, stories written on the go. A rumble of laughter and the tale is heard only in echoes. The wind blows me in a new direction. Whom shall I visit next?

Well, it's hard to stay chipper, to keep up my hope.

Such dark thoughts crowd my mind in a throng!

As bad news piles like snowdrifts upon the steep slope,

I don't think the descent will take long...

.

As a child, full of life, I had power to spare

Ah, what I wouldn't give for a mental repair!

But it's not over yet! I can still do my share...

.

If you join me, united

We'll stand up and fight it,

For shoulder to shoulder,

We're sure to feel bolder.

Their 'alternative facts'

Will explode as we act

To speak out for the weak--

And the triumph we seek

Will result when the masses

Reject their morasses

They do not represent

Nine-nine point nine percent

And it's time now to climb to sublime heights and shine

With our light we will smite the repugnant 'alt-right,'

And we'll pull ourselves out of the darkness!

This went from not having friends to a charged revolt (part one to part two), and I did not expect that. However, I agree about the darkness.

You're right and this is something that happens to my writing often. I write out my feelings and mood and then realize that if I keep going this way it's gonna end in a very dark place, and I feel like ending that way is sort of...well, not a comforting thing. So I find myself tacking on a more optimistic ending, which, though it's somewhat insincere, at least seems to be conceivably possible. Sort of like Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

At any rate, in my head, it's all the same darkness, just on a different scale. Think of Julia and Mandelbrot...

I, too, make changes and avoid the very dark places. I'm naturally optimistic. I pull myself back. I can't imagine going there.
