The Darkness (1/2)
Inspiration hits with a flash, stories written on the go. A rumble of laughter and the tale is heard only in echoes. The wind blows me in a new direction. Whom shall I visit next?
Do we ever recover from blows that we're dealt?
Do we just learn to live with the dent?
Does the sting ever fade from the pain that we've felt;
Does it mingle with each sentiment?
.
When a child's full of life, they have power to spare.
As I grew, a full charge was increasingly rare,
And today, I am weary and full of despair
As the world flickers swiftly to darkness.
.
I remember how friendships, in earlier years,
Used to fill my whole outlook with light--
And I wince at the contrast, and wipe away tears;
There is nobody with me tonight.
.
Where's the joy of companionship I used to know?
Do I have friends at all now? Oh, where did they go?
All the struggling of decades! What have I to show
As the world flickers swiftly to darkness?
.
I can see how the wicked have chosen their own,
See their heroes' contempt
For the values I prize.
I can hear the brutes howling! I let out a groan
As they burn the world down
Right in front of my eyes!

Story prompt:
Write some lyrics. It's a different form of storytelling than I'm used to, and I thought it might be fun!
