Tamori Taka: The visit from a man of wisdom and kindness

HS Wift

I have been HS Wift for the longest time now, through some of the darkest hours I have known, and it warms my heart to know that the light that led me through lives on still.

May it never die.

One evening, in her ninth year, as Taka wandered the halls of her family's house, an unfamiliar voice called out to her.

"Taka-chan, this one presumes."

Turning to the open door, she was greeted by an elderly man, bearing the mons of the Doji school of courtiers.

"Apologies, Doji-sama, I did not mean to disturb you. I was just having a walk about the house."

"A fine pastime, child, and you need not apologise. You did not distub me. In fact, I had rather hoped to meet you. I had heard of the... unique circumstances of your birth." Taka shifted uncomfortably at the implication of her stigma. "I imagine that has led to some difficult experiences." The man smiled, a soft, unthreatening smile. "I think you are at the start of an interesting story, and I would like to be a chapter in it." Stepping aside, the Doji indicated a shogi set, "Do you play?"

Taka smiled weakly and shook her head, lowering her gaze.

"Would you like to?"

Taka's weak smile grew into the smile that won her father's heart.
