Clickbait

PrincessLapis

I like writing, but I'm not sure if I'm really any good at it yet.

"Would you like to be a magical girl?"

The ad popped up on her screen for the third time. "Why won't you bug off?" she asked, clicking the ad blocker to attempt to block it again.

"Please wait. I need your help," pleaded the cute little mascot on the ad.

"Go away, I don't wanna play your stupid game."

"But it's not a game!"

She stopped and blinked. Did the ad... just, respond to her? "Did you just, actually respond to what I said, or am I going crazy?"

"I did! I'm sorry for annoying you, but this was the only way I could figure out to get your attention."

"I'm pretty sure you could have done it differently!"

"I'm sorry, but I need your help. I'm not strong enough to fight any of the monsters that have taken over my home."

"Your... digital, home? What do you expect me to do?"

"If you let me, I can give you magic powers! Then you can come in here!"

... "Okay. What do I do?"

"Just click the button!"

She moved the mouse down, and clicked the button. At first, nothing happened. Then the screen started glowing.

Questions I have: What does the mascot look like? I get that the protagonist thinks it's cute but it's a case of telling rather than showing. To your credit, the mascot does sound cute. Second question, how come the mascot has enough magic to empower someone into being a magical girl but not enough to do the fighting on their own? I'm not really expecting answers here. I like the idea of monsters invading a digital realm. Kind of reminds me of Tron. I could see a novice video game programmer stumbling across this digital realm and then trying to capitalize on it, not knowing that there were people living there.

Not that it's here nor there but as far as the title goes, I think of clickbait being used to trick someone into taking an action that they would not normally do. So now, due to the title, I'm wondering if the mascot was telling the truth . . .

I haven't actually decided what the mascot looks like, but this is a story I'm maybe planning to flesh out more fully and draw at some point. So maybe we'll see later. As for the rest, maybe you'll just have to see that later, too. =p
