Perish Song
I like writing, but I'm not sure if I'm really any good at it yet.
"Do you guys always have to show up with such inconvenient timing?" she asked the monster, not that it could answer or even understand her.
Aria slashed it with her axe, the monster emitting a strained cry as she made yet another gash in its side. Electric blue liquid leaked steadily into the grass.
"Bleh. You could at least be a little less disgusting." They had varied colors. This one, was blue. One of the more pleasant options, honestly.
The monster cried again, spitting spikes in her direction. She strummed a few notes on her stringed weapon, creating a literal sound barrier of sorts.
It attempted to leap away, a pathetic effort.
"Oh no you don't." Aria walked over to where it lay, flailing. She almost felt a little sorry for it in this state. But, it needed to die. She brought her axe down on it one final time, slicing it neatly down the middle.
It glowed black, dissolving and exploding into thick blue smoke that quickly dissipated.
Aria bent down and picked up the black shard. Now, back to dinner.

Yeah, it would only be fair of them to. What a bunch of jerks. Or at least not show up when people are in the middle of important things like eating food.

The fact that she uses an axe is pretty interesting. I'm curious if it's one or two handed, what the curve of the blade looks like, and the haft. And how the strings work. Unless axe meant guitar. But it had blades. Hurm. Could be very cool. Not sure how the monsters work. They bleed but also dissipate into smoke and leave shards. A lot of different elements at work but the right kind of details could bring them all together. Either the monsters aren't making a lot of noise or Aria (bonus points for the name) is on/in a different plane.

Yeah, fun fact, I accidentally named her Aria because it just felt right, and then decided to role with the whole music thing. The axe, I don't really know a ton about axes, but it's totally meant for fighting. Just happens to also have music strings on it because music theming.
The monsters are made of magic, is about as far as I can tell you right now. Shard is just sorta their core.
Monster is just quiet enough that her parents can't hear it from inside the house! And maybe some magic shenanigans going on a bit, haven't decided yet.

It's really inconvenient when those monsters need beating up at food time. I think they should keep themselves to themselves until at least 10pm...
