Experimental
I like writing, but I'm not sure if I'm really any good at it yet.
The girl whimpered in pain as a man made tiny incisions in her arm. Or... what was left of her arm, anyway.
"Sh, it'll be alright soon," the green-haired girl nearby said softly to her, taking a break from what she was doing to stroke the small girl's head. She went back to etching in the rock.
"Alright, done," the man said, sitting up straight and wiping the sweat from his forehead. "You?"
"Almost." She scratched a couple more lines into the rock. "There. Should work. Entirely experimental, of course."
"But it'll work?"
"Probably. Only one way to find out." She gently levitated the rocks into place, using her hands to put a ring-shaped piece over the end of the arm. A similar one had already been placed on the small girl's leg.
She gently placed her hand on the girl's head. "This is probably going to hurt a lot, but try to stay still, okay?"
She nodded.

Yep. The small child doesn't entirely understand everything, but she does understand that it involves pain and new limbs, and so she's willing to try. The exact logistics of it working confuse her a bit, though. She got as far as "It's magic" with that.

Odd and inscrutable (perhaps until the sequel?) but despite the torture scene it appears to be consensual. So there's that anyway.
