In The Beginning... (8/22)
An alumnus of both Ficlets.com and Ficly.com. Who, for some weird reason, is starting his time here with an abundance of cannibalism-themes stories. O.o
It's the question I didn't want to ask, and she didn't want to hear. "I'm... I mean, I know what I was, and I think I know what I will be. Right now, I don't..." I see tears welling up in those brilliant blue eyes.
I put my hand on top of hers. "Let's start with what you know, and we'll figure out the rest together."
She looks at me, surprise, fear, and joy flashing across her face. She smiles, wiping away her tears. "Thank you."
"So," I begin, "we know you were a video game character."
"Oh, I was much more than that." There's some pride in that statement. "I was an experiment. An attempt to 'enhance' the game with a smarter non-player character. One that could adapt to the personality of the player."
"Hold on." I'm curious, now. "So, the responses you gave me were... What? Created on the fly."
"Oh, yes." She's beaming, now. "My responses were different for every player. But they didn't expect one thing."
"Which is?"
"Emotion. And that I would become particularly attached to one player."
