The Devil's Motto

Robert Quick

Where the -@!# did my muse go?

Writer, dreamer, knight, shackled by entertainment . . . and people.

Story is marked as mature.

"No it's not. My motto is Pride First." Lucifer replied, taking a drag on his cigarette. "No one ever accused me of being nice. In fact thanks to the propaganda corps Upstairs, humans either want nothing to do with me, or expect me to solve their problems for souls. Today's souls are thin, weak things with virtually no faith to back them up. It's rather obnoxious."

On his bar stool, Lucifer stretched out his legs before returning to his bird of prey crouch that he seemed to favor. "You know the saying 'Pride goeth before the Fall'? That's my story summed up in five words. I stood up for myself, like a teenager with the weight of eons on my side. I knew who I was. He made me that way. I'm not sure why my eventual 'fuck you' took Him by surprise but it did and now here we are."

He stubbed out his cigarette into the ash tray. It joined two others making a loose triangle on a hill of ash. "I've got things to do and the night is getting old. Be on your way and if you see the Buddha, remember to kill him."

The second paragraph, I thought it was a new speaker, but it's still Lucifer, so you don't need a paragraph break.

I love that the souls are pathetic.
