He lie on the floor on his back. People crowded around exclaiming, wondering what to do. I shoved my way in, dropping to my knees beside him. I loosened the collar of his shirt, pressed my fingers to his neck for a pulse, and finding one, noted his face beginning to swell.
I dug in his pants pockets. He wore cargoes, so there were a lot of them. "Come on, where is it?"
The crowd were now in a circle 2 deep. Finally in his left leg pocket I found his epi pen, jammed it into his leg. The people gasped. After several moments, I checked for a pulse again, prepared to start rescue breaths and chest compressions, his lips barely a blueish hue. "Breathe!" I yelled at him.
I was leaning over him, undoing shirt buttons, as he gasped. The crowd cheered. His eyes fluttered open.
"Did we get her?" he croaked.
"Next time I have to climb all over you, we'd better be naked," I growled. "And she got away."
He groaned. "Almost had her."
"I almost lost you." I refrained from hitting him.
"Maybe next time."
Maybe.

At first I thought this was a sequel to the Strip Poker story (probably due to the mature symbol and absolutely an unconscious assumption on my part). Now (potentially based on another assumption), I'm imagining that the Girl that Got Away uses bees as a weapon, which while awesome, makes the story slightly more silly than the gritty cop feel I get from the rest of it. Pretty cool though.
