Trains of Thought
"You've got to stop yawning like that."
"I can't help it! I'm bored."
"Well, yawn any bigger and I'll be able to see out the other end."
"Ugh! You're gross. Keep your voice down."
"Why?
"Because the last thing I want is for everyone to remember me as the girl with the crass guy!"
"Just because we're stuck on a train, you think this microcosm of passengers is honing in on our personal conversation topics? Get a life. The universe does not revolve around planet Ivy."
"Sure it does. Just look out the window. There's the universe whirling around me."
"Uh huh. So explain me sitting here."
"We're in geosynchronous orbit. Duh."
"You may want to brush up on your astronomy."
"Whatever. Tell me you don't sometimes imagine that the world is moving instead of you when you ride."
"Sure, but mostly when we pass through open land. Forests like these rush past so quickly its just a dark green blur, especially with snow this thick. I said stop yawning."
"I would if I could catch a wink of sleep on these lumpy seats!"

I, for one, listen to every passing or nearby conversation. Can't help it. I wonder what other people's lives are like.

I always was in awe of those who don't care what others think. As I've gotten older, I've gotten a bit more carefree. I still listen to passing conversations, too. I think good writers do. I just worry less about my own story being overheard.

According to Einstein, it is the world moving past you as you sit motionless in the train.
I love the way you flesh out the characters so quickly in so few words.

Story challenge:
Writing exposition is easy. In fact, a common mistake of young writers is the infamous infodump -- writing long paragraphs and pages that do nothing more than provide background and world-building for their story. It's much more difficult -- and much more…

I wonder where they're headed? They certainly don't seem to excited about it...
