A Peck o' Trouble

I dabble a little in a lot of things — writing, webcomics, gaming, photography, web design, music, and more. I write code full-time and words in the gaps in between.

Grims slung his rifle then bent to the body. Blood dribbled from the kid's mouth, but not much. Three shots center mass had assured the kid died quickly.

A little blood, but it was enough. The yips and yowls sounded closer. Death was on the air now, and the mooncats were tracking it already.

With a grunt Grims hefted the corpse to his shoulder. The kid was thin, frail. That whole clan looked like a collection of stick-figure effigys. This kid was no different. At least he was light. Grims was going to have to move fast to stay ahead of the mooncats.

The Korpsky place wasn't far. They never ventured far from home. There was rarely a need. More than few unwary passersby found themselves too close to the Korpskys', and a peck of trouble to show for it.

The yips sounded behind Grims again. A couple hundred yards, by his estimation.

"Get the lead out, Grims," he mumbled, and he stepped up his pace.

Even if he made it in time, tonight was not going to end well. The Korpskys would not be happy to see him.

Great sequel! This meeting will not end well. I picture a big angry papa until the mooncats show up and they have to team up with each other to fight off the predators.

It seems like it has the potential to go sideways in a hurry, that's for sure.
