Never Gonna Be Your Girl

Jim Stitzel

I dabble a little in a lot of things — writing, webcomics, gaming, photography, web design, music, and more. I write code full-time and words in the gaps in between.

You poked a hole in the box. I can only imagine what that did to your fingernails, wearing them down to the quick the way you must have to wear an opening into the cardboard. But I can hear your voice a little louder now. It makes it difficult to sleep at night.

I think tomorrow I'll purchase a roll of industrial strength tape -- I've seen advertisements for the stuff on late-night TV -- and wrap the entire box in the stuff. I hope it'll still allow you enough air to breath. I don't actually want you to die, after all. But I can't bear the sound of your voice or of the constant pleading to be set free. We both know at this point that that's not an option.

I might even find a better place to store the box. Keeping you in my closet is simply not working out. You're still too close, and just knowing you're there weighs on my mind, even while I sleep. I might rent a storage unit -- a small one, of course -- just for your box. Maybe, given enough time, I can simply forget about you completely.

I can hope.

Hahahaha! I love how you spun this. I'm metaphorically half-wanting to throw the box into deep dark hole somewhere as well so this was pretty accurate regardless of whether literal or figurative.

It was fun. I love taking relatively innocent ideas and twisting them around a few times. Glad you got a kick out of it. :)
