Almost time to say goodbye

The heat was unbearable now, hotter than it had ever been in the planets entire history. At least the pretences were over, there was no one denying it anymore everyone had finally accepted humanity would be dead within hours. I was glad I had said goodbye to my friends. I made sure they knew they had been good to me, that they had made my last days feel meaningful.

I could hear the prayers of people sure they were going to meet their God. I wish I had their faith but it was hard to believe any kind of god would allow this to happen. Odds are all that awaited me was blackness.
