Burning Questions: Leap of Faith

AdventuresAndSearches

This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

The first full story, "Burning Questions," is available now:

The smoke is making you a bit dizzy, but you manage to stick the landing. You resist the somewhat manic urge to do a flourish and bow to the gymnastics judges' panel. You carefully grip the edge of the window frame and look down to see what is beneath you. You can see some shrubbery, their image rather flickering in the firelight. There's a dark, lozenge-shaped area that might be the fire extinguisher you dropped. Beyond that, there's a large stone that you know has a sign on the other side of it, announcing the name of this building...or ex-building, more like. But that's yards away, and in between seems to be nothing but grass and dead autumn leaves from the oak standing nearby.

You freeze, terrified of the drop. At least it isn't a jump from the third floor! But you know, at this point, trapped on the ledgelike tiles, it's now or never. Taking another deep breath, you count to three and then force yourself to jump out as far as you can, eyes on the items you saw below.
