Burning Questions: When you recover...

AdventuresAndSearches

This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

The first full story, "Burning Questions," is available now:

You turn your head and see that Mr Burton has pulled professor Gundersen to his feet, not too gently, and moved him down the hallway towards the front of the building. The fire spread from the burning books into the puddle where Gunderson had been sprawling. Burton and Gundersen are both out of range. Thank God for that.

When you're ready, your faltering footsteps lead you to the security guard, who is safe and has handcuffed the villainous, vengeful former educator. May he have a really educational experience in jail, you think to yourself as you limp forward to get the firefighers' attention.

Come to think of it, you've learned a lot tonight, yourself. And it's barely midnight, you realize, checking the clock outside. In a couple of hours, it'll be time for bed.

That sounds damn good.

The end.

[Now you can give up, or return to the beginning of the story (https://ficlatte.com/stories/41125), or simply backtrack to another decision point...up to you!]

Did I get the best ending on my first try? This was fun! Excellent use of the ficlatte medium for the story you were trying to tell.

There were some parts where I felt I wasn't in control ... there either weren't any choices, or all the choices I made seemed to amount for nothing. But that's probably in the spirit of CYOA too :P

Wow, yes, I think that this IS the best ending! In the past, elsewhere, someone played, claiming to have played all the different versions, but ... they had not identified the real arsonist, so it was a fib.

Thank you! I have to admit that I've always loved these stories, more importantly the idea of the stories, and was a reader of the CYOA stories from their inception...but this is really my first relatively complex and lengthy story, and I'm still learning. I am working on a video CYOA now, as well, but am a bit stalled out at the moment. But it's also a great learning experience. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you so much for playing!
