This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

Soon enough, you revive, your face and body splashed with water from fire fighters' hoses. They have not seen you; you're just in the crossfire, as it were.

You lie back, watching the conflagration with a feeling of weary fascination. Your mind wanders back to the line of fire that you sensed on the ground, which, you realize, must have followed the path led by Ms Brett's gasoline trail.

The can had been with her in the second story classroom, but the trail had not, apparently, come from there; it didn't reach all the way to the can. Maybe she just ran out of gas, and then moved away from the danger zone. But why would she have not been more careful overall? She'd been filthy, and ...

There was something else....what was it??
