Burning Questions: Wait at the center of the square
This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.
The first full story, "Burning Questions," is available now:

Not daring to head down any of the halls, you feel safer in the dead center of the square. There's no ceiling here, so there's nothing that is likely to fall down upon you, and the water might provide some protection, as well. You take a seat on one of the cold stone benches, feeling the chilly seat soothing your legs where you got burned.
You feel safer. You gaze up at the stars until the smoke is too thick to see through.
You eventually hear sirens approaching. You also hear a voice calling from somewhere above you, but you don't know who it is.
You survive and are not hurt, but you still feel bad about the guard who was killed by a falling wall outside the back doors. And you find out later on whose voice you heard calling... and wonder if you could have saved them.
But still, you saved yourself. You'll be okay.
The end
[Now you can give up, or return to the beginning of the story (https://ficlatte.com/stories/41125), or simply backtrack to another decision point...up to you!]
Sequels
No sequels yet. Why not write one?
