Dream Mist
I dabble a little in a lot of things — writing, webcomics, gaming, photography, web design, music, and more. I write code full-time and words in the gaps in between.
"Anything?" Bantu asked.
"Gimme a sec," replied Shari. With a gloved hand she reached into the mist hovering before her, dipping a small test tube into it and filling it as best she could. With the other hand she stoppered it before withdrawing it and gently placing it into the analyzer set up on the path next to her.
Shari pulled off the gloves and glanced over at Bantu, who was engaged in his own work. "It's going to be a few minutes, but I don't expect the results are going to be any different here than they were at any of the other three sites we've been to today."
Bantu grunted in acknowledgement. "Vapor, not unlike smoke but with properties of mist, that hangs in the air like a bubble over the site of the detonation. Right."
Shari nodded. "And prolonged contact with it results in very specific types of entropy, depending on material and mass." She glanced at her discarded gloves, which were already beginning to break down and crumble.
She sighed, troubled. "I just wish we knew what it was."

Yeah, my dreams have been vivid lately and somewhat sensical. The dream I actually had that this story was based off was a group launching four missiles in an arc into surrounding territory. Only when they detonated at near ground level, the destruction was devastating without causing any kind of charring or burning. More like very large-scale concussion waves that leveled everything around them. And of course there was this strange mist left behind as an unexpected side-effect of the weapons.

Neat. I shared my strange dream today on facebook, but it doesn't translate well into a ficlatté. I'll have to think more or dream more before entering this challenge.

I guess I'll kick this sucker off.
We all have dreams, some good, some nightmarish, but probably mostly somewhere in between. Pick a dream you've had -- recently, from childhood, whatever -- and use it as the basis of a story.
