Adversity Song

slapdashmonuments

Inspiration hits with a flash, stories written on the go. A rumble of laughter and the tale is heard only in echoes. The wind blows me in a new direction. Whom shall I visit next?

Boldly I fear, oh so boldly I stride,

For I dare to be frightened! I shan't be denied!

There are others who cower but meet with bad ends;

There are mothers with power, het up with a lens,

But the timid who bluster are rare, dear my friends.

I will strike when I'm most terrified!

.

Hemmy ho, to the whitebeard, the raven, the lye

Hemmy ho! Strike the backboard; on the blackboard we'll fly

When we stand arm in arm he cannot do us harm--

Come along, worthy friends, you and I!

.

Can you see me, Jerome, getting up in his face?

Can you picture my sword swinging any old place?

Well this trifler's a bigot, from ev'ry direction

He has brought all his cronies, a slimy selection

Of haters. Hey, come on, I'll gouge his mid-section

Smite the pig with a poke, for he's such a disgrace

.

Hemmy ho, for the maven, the craven, the spy

Hemmy ho! Strike the backboard; on the blackboard we'll fly

When we stand arm in arm he cannot do us harm

Let us stride through the storm, do or die!

Come along, worthy friends, you and I!

What was your inspiration for this? I feel a possible tie-in to the political situation we find ourselves in, but I don't know if I'm inventing that figure-ground relationship or if that is intentional.

Hi! I started this out with no clear direction in mind. The severity of the political situation is much on my mind and was when I wrote the second verse, so yes, that bit is intentional, but the rest is more general wordplay and folderol.

Very interesting. I like the imagery in the chorus, and the word choices throughout.

Story prompt:

Write some lyrics. It's a different form of storytelling than I'm used to, and I thought it might be fun!
