Dinner was spent silently chewing while the TV shared the latest in the attacks on the planet by the Croatone.
Father cleared his throat. "I think it is time we consider moving into the town bunker."
My Mother pushed the last of the season's peas around on her plate. "Whatever you think is best."
Her words penetrated to my core. They were basically 'yes'. She was a yes woman! Being a yes woman was always a point of pride with me, but I realized that there was a sickening downside. It was cowardly.
But unlike her, my man was DOING something, not cowering in a hole in the ground. My yes wasn't consent to sit idle. My following him was active, not passive.
"No." I said aloud. My parents looked at me. "You can go to the bunker, but I'm not."
"Jen, this is not a discussion..."
"I'm not discussing it, Dad. I'm telling you my choice."
As a coward, my father had no fight. I got up from the table, throwing my napkin over the last of the food in the house. No more words. It was time for action.

The line "No more words. It was time for action." is a really great ending if you were going for wanting someone to be really hopeful for a sequel to be added, because I definitely am very curious as to what will happen next. :-)
