Coworkers
The man was always watching. Bryant almost couldn't leave his cubicle as he always felt those eyes on him.
It started the very day the man was hired. Bryant was asked to show him around the building.
"So, is this your first job in the big city?"
The man's eyes lingered on Bryant but not any particular feature. It felt like he was being scanned as the question was dissected and an internal council was held to decipher all possible hidden contingencies and intimations. Finally he answered.
"Not really."
Bryant pulled a smile onto his face. "Well, I hope you like it here. At least the break room is well stocked if nothing else."
Again with the eyes. What could the man see besides acne scars, skin, and muscles moving underneath?
Now everyday was a battle to avoid the man's gaze throughout the maze of the office. Bryant was becoming very well acquainted with the potted plants he hid behind now as he made his daily trips to the copier and back.

Nice prequel! I was thinking of sequeling the next story, but was unsure where I wanted to take it. You beat me!
