Three Word Prompt: Sheridan's Cosmos

slapdashmonuments

Inspiration hits with a flash, stories written on the go. A rumble of laughter and the tale is heard only in echoes. The wind blows me in a new direction. Whom shall I visit next?

Sheridan lay on the hill amidst the sound of crickets and cicadas, the recently mown grass pricking through his T-shirt, and pointed upwards at the clear black sky.

The heavens shone down upon the lad, matching the intensity of his gaze. He could always create new constellations, connecting the dots in novel ways. The combinations he had already devised were astronomical in more ways than one.

Sher had always felt the cosmos' pull, the alluring charm of endless space. The stillness and quiet of his hill were nothing compared to the privacy, the sanctuary that the stars could provide him when he was ready. He had known for most of his fourteen years that he would reach them in time.

Was this vanity? Hardly. He knew in a voiceless way that he was bound for heaven, that he would see new configurations of stars than any had ever seen before, and he would find the dazzling denizens of his new home among them. Yes. Soon he would come home.

He had a plan; he'd always had it.

Aloft, and alone, Sheridan dreamed.
