The Fawn and the Turtles (4)

slapdashmonuments

Inspiration hits with a flash, stories written on the go. A rumble of laughter and the tale is heard only in echoes. The wind blows me in a new direction. Whom shall I visit next?

It was a long time before Tamsin's young soul could decide whether it would stay with her, or depart for another home, but in the end, it decided that Tamsin deserved another chance.

With some pain and regret that she could not really understand, in the mid-afternoon of the following day, Tamsin's head shakily rose from the fresh, green grass. She did not understand. She had assumed that she would never wake in the wood again. Was it still winter? Struggling to get upright, she cast about and saw that it was still snowy in other parts of the wood, but she had been resting on a fawn-shaped patch of greenery that made no sense to her.

Disoriented, Tam glanced toward the slope where she'd helped the turtles make their ascent. They were nowhere to be seen. Likewise, the fiery ball she'd seen was gone.

Tam could not make sense of anything. She knew it was still cold; her body had resumed its trembling, but she felt much better. Could that be due merely to her long rest?
