False Shelter
Getting back into the flow of writing, mostly with wordplay and poems. I'm a creative soul, from childhood to middle age, and my joy is to produce new things the world has never seen before. I'm an educator from the USA working as a college professor of lit and music. I'm learning to love myself little by little.
A hermit crab's a humble, helpless creature
That borrows others' armor as it grows
It's fragile, having no protective feature,
And makes an easy victim, as it knows.
-
And worse than that, this poor, vulnerable chap
At times, in moments desperate and scary,
Will rashly pick a shelter that's a trap;
Fall victim to abusers, all unwary
-
The crab, relieved, relaxes all defenses;
Adores its seeming haven; places trust
In its confinement and its false pretenses,
Its lies and accusations so unjust,
-
The crab's convinced that it should be detested.
It dares not flee--and slowly, it's digested.
