The Doorway
“Ghosts are all emotion, all the time. I don't know what keeps their form intact but they might be beings of pure emotion. There isn't a way to really measure them yet. And due to the nature of most deaths, they operate under pain, rage, and sadness. I'm not sure if the wall or boundary or what-have-you changes the intensity of emotions in different directions. To them we might seem “muted” on this side. Which could explain why they seem drawn to strong emotions themselves. We won't know until someone can bridge the two states of being.”
“Which comes to me.”
“Which comes to you. My theory about what you've said so far, your experiences, is that your presence seems to cause the barrier between us and them to weaken. And with your permission, I'd like to try to identify the hows and the whys.”
"You mean run some tests, don't you?"
"No one likes those words. I mean they don't exactly inspire confidence, do they? But you sought me out. Until today, I didn't know who you were."
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Okay."

I love this. I love that it is inspired by Abby's Wytch story, but mostly the part about emotion. Some people do have a higher EQ (Emotional Quotient). They can read people well. Why can't they read ghosts according to your definition? :)
