The Pit
I have been HS Wift for the longest time now, through some of the darkest hours I have known, and it warms my heart to know that the light that led me through lives on still.
May it never die.
Darkness.
Endless darkness, all around you. You swim through an obsidian ocean, searching for some distant speck of light. You hear their voices tugging at you.
You're just lazy...
Maybe if you just tried...
Look on the bright side...
And the darkness grows yet darker.
You keep pushing through the vast ebony expanse, haunted by flashes of images. Thoughts born from your darkest places. You hate these notions for besieging your consciousness, and you hate yourself for birthing these notions.
And the darkness grows yet darker.
You find yourself swept along the raven river. You lie to the people who love you because you're terrified of your own inner truths. You bury them, and squash them, and lock them deep inside, even though you know it isn't healthy.
And the darkness grows yet darker.
Until all that's left is you. Huddled on the ground with nothing but the darkness.
Alone in the pit.

Woof. A beautiful characterization of depression. Wow.

I agree with storykeeper. Plus, all my positive comments are way too cheery for the bottom of the pit.. The pit deserves snark and actions born of apathy and boredom. It's like thawing frostbite; you have to start in cold water and work up to warm. Throwing positivity in the pit is jarring. You'll lose a finger. That's why I don't point down into pits.

I wonder how many of us live in the pit.
