Tamori Taka: Victory from the advice of a friend

I have been HS Wift for the longest time now, through some of the darkest hours I have known, and it warms my heart to know that the light that led me through lives on still.

May it never die.


The day after Keneya parted, the bullies returned to teasing Taka. They jeered at her, and they threw their stones. But Taka didn't fall. She didn't cry or scream or flee. Timid, shy, antisocial Tamori Taka, the freak cursed by misfortune turned and fixed her oppressors with a superior stare, as if she knew some great truth that they were missing. She smiled and walked away, her instincts walled in by her mental armour, forged of memories.

Memories of her loving parents and beloved siblings, of Doji Semita, Tsuruchi Kabura and Utaku Keneya, and of course of Kaze, Keneya's noble steed. Memories of her teacher, Tamori Fakura and his brilliant fireworks, of Chiyome, her fox companion, safely nestled in her kimono. But most of all, memories of Mirumoto Keshintai, her most beloved friend.

The bullies returned the next day, and the day after, numbering less each time, and each time, they failed to extract a response from stoic Tamori Taka.

On the fourth day since the Utaku battle maiden departed, nobody came.
