The Phone Call
"So, I heard you were in town?"
He could practically hear Mike Green's intense grin over the phone. In college, she had been his best friend. Shortly thereafter, they had parted ways - Gonçalves to Freetalk, Green to some analytics firm bound by sheafs of NDAs. He had sent them his resume from the plane.
"Yeah, I am," he replied. "Actually, I'm still at the airport. Going to get a cab, in a moment."
"Alright, then, I'll meet you somewhere. Later. Not sure where."
"Great. See you there, then. Send me the details?"
"Sure."
The drink had begun to settle at the bottom of the cup, clear greenish fluid and a pile of powder. He looked around for a stirrer.
"Cool. So, how's it been?"
There was no answer. Merely a faint buzz.
"Mike?"
A few seconds later, the chair had fallen backwards, like a tree. The drink had fallen, sprayed out over the floor, and the glass had bounced away. And Ryan Gonçalves had stood bolt upright, and was listening to the phone in mute horror.
Painful screams were coming from the other end.

A Gypsy Heart
I wasn't feeling it at first, maybe because you were setting it up. But now I am intrigued. Nicely done

Aw geez, I just finished watching some Hitchcock trailers and this fits right in, with my visual images.

He seems oddly unscathed. I can't picture the distance between the two in this piece.

Not the best way to lose a friend.
I like the suddrn change of pace, but there's something not quite right about it. I wish I could be more helpful than that, but it just misses the mark a little in terms of word choice.
I'm liking the story, though.
