Tongue Tied and Fluttering
Escapist from Ficly! So glad the community has found a new home thanks to some dedicated writers.
I've always had tar lungs. They're sticky-sluggish and my tongue too hesitates like yellow traffic lights curb phonation.
Maybe that's why I was silent when skewered with that cool metal. I mean, Jesus, it felt terrible to be (realistically) "edibilized" like a piece of steak on that knife. It fucking hurt.
But no matter what I tried to think, I could not shut off a part of me that quivered in pleasure at my possible demise. I didn't want to die. Life was worn out like a plain white sweater, but I was decent at it. I felt I was a cricket or a moth (nearly the bottom of the food chain), flitting metaphors for only the littlest of humans to spark at, so they would feel more than a linear coasting. What did I matter? My blood probably meant more than any creation I could have spun in our medium-killing culture. I was prey, mildly, dreamily.
Some merciful queen of insects spared me though, and paramedics arrived before my guts looked too much like curry. I'd continue chirping. I was glad, mildly, dreamily.

Being featured is all about how the server perceives activity on a story. You get points for views, for comments and for sequels, etc. Every night (UK time), the server decides how active every story has been: the most active gets the feature. My opinion is not consulted.
That said, this piece richly deserves to be featured, so I'm very glad that my server agrees. Well done.
