"I'm sure it will come off with a bit of scrubbing," Sadie answered.
The wizard Tenever wiped a hand slowly across the tabletop, causing the scratched inscription to flare and spark angrily. Sadie was ready to protest, but held back when she saw the strain in Tenever's posture, the effort in his eyes, his dangerous grin. As the handful of papers flaked away into cinders, he withdrew his smoking fist and gave it a nonchalant shake. The symbol was gone.
"There. We needn't worry about that curse anymore."
